The 89th Academy Awards are months away but the season for the best films of 2016 is in full swing! Most of the year’s best films are on the cusp of nationwide release for consideration, and the nominees will be revealed in time but Hollywood’s biggest night needs a host! Now it has one in late-night funny man Jimmy Kimmel!
The comedian will host the 89th Oscars show, to be broadcast live by ABC on Feb. 26, sources said. His selection is expected to be announced by producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd, who came aboard to produce the high-profile event just last month. It will be the first time hosting the Oscars, the granddaddy of all awards show, for Kimmel, who’s been the face of ABC’s late night telecast since his Jimmy Kimmel Live! launched in 2003
Kimmel follows in the footsteps of Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris and Hugh Jackman to name a few. Kimmel has had a long-running late night talk show and he is well-respected by ABC, hence the broadcasting company’s endorsement to the Academy to hand him the hosting gig after extending the deal for ABC to broadcast the Oscars back in August. He’s definitely qualified for the job and I look forward to see him oversee Hollywood’s most prestigious evening.
The 89th Annual Academy Awards Ceremony will occur on February 26, 2017.
