2016 has to be one of the best years for animated features on record and all of the animated features I’ve seen so far this year could end up winning the Oscar for the best animated film of the year. This Thanksgiving Day weekend, the final animated feature of 2016 is a tropical and mystical adventure from Disney about a remarkable young woman who embarks on a dangerous expedition to save her family and to do so, she must align herself with the legendary Pacific Island demi-god of the wind and sea, Maui. This holiday weekend, Moana sets sail into theaters.
Director: Ron Clements and John Musker with Don Hall and Chris Williams
Screenwriter: Jared Bush
Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Auli’i Cravalho, Alan Tudyk, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House, Oscar Knightley, Troy Polumalu, and Temuera Morrison.
My expectations: A Disney animated spectacle set the tone for 2016 at the start of the year and I’m hopeful that Moana is the animated spectacle that closes 2016 on a very high note. I want Moana to make it even more difficult to decide what animated film was the best of the year.
