Typical Disney! They can’t leave anything alone! Their newest venture is an attempt to breathe new life into Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale about the Bare Necessities of Life. This newest incarnation of The Jungle Book, is crafted by Iron Man director Jon Favreau and screenwriter Justin Marks, and follows the journey of the man-cub Mowgli and his animal family as they trek towards the man-village dodging and evading the treacherous Bengal tiger Shere-Khan, who will stop at nothing to pick pieces of Mowgli out of his razor sharp fangs.
What am I expecting to see?: I will always have a soft spot for The Jungle Book because my late-father was amazed by the 1994 version directed by Stephen Sommers. This time The Jungle Book is a live-action adaptation that draws from the talking animal concept of the classic 1967 animated rendition and features an amazing vocal talents of a galaxy of stars including Bill Murray, Sir Ben Kingsley, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito, Christopher Walken, Lupita Nyong’o and Idris Elba and introducing Neel Sethi as Mowgli, the man-cub. I expect The Jungle Book to be a lighthearted yet, entertaining endeavor that will satisfy my appreciation for Rudyard Kipling’s legendary tale.
