If I recall correctly, 1950s Hollywood was a turbulent era. The studio system collapsed and new styles of filmmaking began to emerge to contend against the rise of television. This is the era, where Hail, Caesar! takes place. Those dastardly Coen Brothers have crafted a story about a famous motion picture fixer named Eddie Mannix who is up to his ears in keeping famous stars in line. When leading man Baird Whitlock is kidnapped, Mannix must use any and all connections and resources he can to find Whitlock before the papers get a hold of what is going on.
What am I expecting to see?: I’m always game for a Coen Brothers flick because they are savvy writer, consistent filmmakers and steady storytellers. I see they have wrangled a few friends into this new flick including George Clooney, Josh Brolin and Frances McDormand and rounding out this star-studded cast is Scarlet Johannson, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Tilda Swinton, Dolph Lundgren, Christopher Lambert and Alden Ehrenreich. The Coen Brothers are masters in the art of dark comedy and I await to see something that could add to their legacy. Hail, Caesar! could be that something.
