He’s the guy who shot first (apparently), he’s the guy who flies the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, he won Princess Leia’s heart, he was frozen in carbonite and survived the freezing process, covered Luke Skywalker when he made his legendary attack run on the Death Star and now Han Solo has one more claim to fame: he’s (finally) getting his own standalone feature film.
According to sources, Disney and Lucasfilm have signed off on an origin story for the infamous smuggler/scoundrel/thief-turned-legendary Rebellion General. Lawrence and Jon Kasdan are in charge of the screenplay; Lawrence co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, Jon’s writing credits include Dawson’s Creek. Chris Miller and Phil Lord, known from The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, have been given the keys to direct the feature.
The Han Solo standalone feature is scheduled for a May 25, 2018.
