Ever since Marvel and Sony announced that they will reboot the Spider-Man franchise once more to insert the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler into the Avengers Initiative, the studios have done their due diligence to find the right faces to add to the franchise. Initially Drew Goddard was chosen to direct but he dropped out of the project for some undisclosed reason. After months of speculation, rumors and guessing, Marvel and Sony have finally made their call: Jon Watts will direct Tom Holland as Spider-Man.
If anyone is unfamiliar with both, this is what is known about the two.
Jon Watts is a director and producer, known for Clown (2014), Cop Car (2015) and Eugene! (2012).
In their press release, Marvel said they were impressed by not only Holland’s screen tests, but also his work in The Impossible (2012), Wolf Hall (2015), and the upcoming In the Heart of the Sea.
Holland will make his debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, scheduled for release next summer. Spider-Man‘s standalone installment will arrive in theaters on July 28, 2017.
