For some time now, I’ve been monitoring this potential Gambit movie. A spinoff from the ongoing X-Men film franchise about the character Remy LeBeau, a.k.a. Gambit, a mutant who can infuse powerful amounts of kinetic energy into his signature playing cards turning them into explosives. Gambit has already been featured in the X-Men universe, played by Taylor Kitsch, seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but the studio has decided to take the character and go in a different direction. Channing Tatum has been tapped to play the title character for some time now, he will also be a producer on the film and now Gambit has finally found a director in Rupert Wyatt.
I immediately recognize Wyatt’s name from Rise of the Planet of the Apes. He has also directed the recent crime drama, The Gambler starring Mark Wahlberg. I thought Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a very slick feature and I was very impressed with how Wyatt approached the film. I find this a wise choice and I believe Gambit is in good hands with Tatum as the lead under Wyatt’s direction. Gambit shuffles into theaters on October 7, 2016.
