I was 10 years old when I first saw X-Men and it was also the first time I ever saw Hugh Jackman on the big screen. Since 2000, Jackman has evolved beyond the role of Wolverine garnering acclaim on Broadway, hosting the Oscars, being nominated for an Oscar; his ascent to stardom since playing Wolverine has been nothing short of remarkable and he has become an actor I respect. Today, news broke that his time playing Wolverine will end when he steps into the role of Logan in the final standalone Wolverine picture.
News like this comes shortly after Jennifer Lawrence announced that she will be walking away from the role of Mystique after production closes on the upcoming sequel X-Men: Apocalypse, but still hearing about Jackman’s retirement from the X-Men universe is a tough pill to swallow. From what understand, he’s certainly earned the right to walk away and he couldn’t play the role forever. Jackman is speculated to cameo in Apocalypse which will arrive in theaters on May 27, 2016. The final standalone Wolverine picture, which will reunite Jackman with James Mangold, is scheduled for a March 3, 2017 release date.
