Once the lights go up on the epic superhero adventure Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the DC Universe will move to the star-studded installment featuring super and super-powered criminals who have to do the governments dirty work in Suicide Squad. Directed by David Ayer, the Suicide Squad are a team of DC baddies led by Deadshot, played by Will Smith, Rick Flagg, played by Tom Hardy, the Joker, played by Jared Leto, Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, Enchantress, played by Cara Delevigne and Captain Boomerang, played by Jai Courtney, who are coerced to work for a branch of the government in exchange for commuting their sentences. If any of them step out of line, a surgically implanted node at the base of their necks go off, decapitating them at the spot. In the comics, the Suicide Squad is assembled and managed by a woman named Amanda Waller, who has officially been cast in the film. She will be played by two time Academy Award nominee Viola Davis.
In my honest opinion, this is a perfect casting. Davis has been a consistent elite actress worthy of the highest accolades imaginable. Her resume includes a short, but star-caliber performance in Doubt, a career-defining performance in The Help, a strong performance in the James Brown biopic Get on Up, in addition to starring in the ABC drama How to Get Away with Murder, so her signing up for Suicide Squad makes this film one of the most anticipated action flicks of 2016. Suicide Squad will begin production in a few months in order to meet its release date on August 5, 2016.
