With the 2013 NFL season coming to a close last Sunday, there were several advertisements showcasing some of this summer’s most anticipated blockbusters. This May, New York’s friendly neighborhood wall-crawler returns for his greatest battle to date. Andrew Garfield will reprise his role as Peter Parker, a.k.a Spider-Man, in Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” which also stars Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Sally Field, Dane Dehaan, Paul Giamatti and Chris Cooper. In this installment, Peter Parker is embracing his hero-status as Spider-Man and continues his relationship with Gwen Stacey, but a new threat to New York, who calls himself Electro, will test Spidey’s mettle and the reunion with his old friend Harry Osbourne will unearth more secrets from Peter’s past.
Phase two of Marvel’s “Avengers Initiative” continues and the First Avenger is on deck with an all new adventure set for release this April. Chris Evans stars in “Captain America: the Winter Soldier.” The Russo Brothers will take the reigns on this new chapter of the Avengers’ saga and co-stars Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan and Samuel L. Jackson. After the attack on New York City, Captain America decides to become an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. in order to find a place in the modern world. Whispers of a new threat have come to light in the form of a character who is called “The Winter Soldier,” but to Captain Rogers, this new threat is a jolt from his past.
In June, Michael Bay’s favorite colossal alien robots return to the big-screen on a whole new level in “Transformers: Age of Extinction.” Hoping for a clean break from the first three installments, Bay has cast Michael Wahlberg in a new leading role as a mechanic named Cade Yeager. Yeager and his daughter Tessa, played by Nicola Peltz, accidently stumble into a secret that will bring the ongoing, and seemingly escalating, war between the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, and the Decepticons, commanded by Megatron, to their doorstep.
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” will be seen in theaters beginning on May 2, 2014. “Captain America: the Winter Soldier” will be seen in theaters beginning on April 4, 2014 and “Transformers: Age of Extinction” will be released in theaters on June 27, 2014.
