This week at the movies, an animated film from Blue Sky Studios dares to take audiences to a world that is beneath the surface of our own. The new animated feature, “Epic,” is based on William Joyce’s beloved children’s book, “The Leaf Men.” Director Chris Wedge peers into an enchanted world at war between the forces of nature, led by Queen Tara, voiced by Beyonce Knowles, and General Ronin, voiced by Colin Farrell, and the contingents of decay and destruction, commanded by the wicked Mandrake, voiced by Christoph Waltz, and a teenage girl named M.K., voiced by Amanda Seyfried, is magically transported into this world where she must ally herself with a rag-tag team of unlikely heroes to save the forest they live in.
What am I expecting to see?: Quite simply, I expect this movie to live up to its name. The animation looks dazzling and the film couldn’t be cast with a better collection of personalities. This movie gathered many characters with a wide range of quirks from Josh Hutcherson, Aziz Ansari, Steven Tyler, Chris O’Dowd and Pitbull and they seem to fit their respective characters well enough on paper. “Epic” looks like a fun, colorful and exciting time at the movies. This could be a surprise and I’m exciting nothing but the best.
