The Academy has spoken. The nominations are announced

Hollywood’s biggest night is around the corner as the race for the Academy Awards reaches the home stretch.

This morning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed their nominations for the 24 categories that will be honored on February 24th, at the 85th Annual Academy Awards. There are some surprises among the nominees but nevertheless, these movies are among the best of the best of 2012. Among the categories that will be showcased on Oscar-night are what I like to call, the big eight; the screenplay categories, the four acting categories, best director and the most prestigious award of them all, best picture.

Best Original Screenplay:

  • Michael Haneke for “Amour

  • John Gatins for “Flight”
  • Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola for “Moonrise Kingdom”

The 85th Annual Academy Awards will air on February 24th on ABC and will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane. My personal analysis will arrive on the blog soon and I will not divulge my personal picks until I have seen every film nominated for Best Picture, this year; I have yet to see “Amour” and “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”
