“Nothing has been the same since New York.” Of course what Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., is talking about is the thwarted alien invasion that almost destroyed New York until “The Avengers” stopped it. In truth, nothing has been the same since New York as fans of the epic franchise eagerly await what is next in what Marvel is calling “Phase 2” of the Avengers legacy. “Iron Man 3” is the first installment of Phase 2. In the upcoming sequel, a year has passed since the Avengers thwarted Loki’s plans for domination and Stark is still haunted by the events that transpired. As he tries to get himself recomposed, a new adversary calling himself, the Mandarin, played by Sir Ben Kingsley, wages war against everything Iron Man stands for. A new international trailer brings new levels of intense darkness to the world of Iron Man that should excite fans of the franchise.
Returning to the franchise is Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Jon Favreau while Rebecca Hall, Guy Pearce and Kingsley are the new additions to the cast. Shane Black will take over the directing duties from Favreau who directed the first two “Iron Man” films. “Iron Man 3” will be released in theaters on May 3, 2013.
